...EXPECTING TEN MORE TALENTS
The idea of realizing the founding of a Jesuit University in Eastern Africa Province preoccupies the minds of many companions not only in the province but even outside.
To our friends and collaborators, the Jesuits have been given a talent and are expected to bring in ten more. This is therefore a vision of the whole province and my role as provincial will be to encourage the Jesuits and our collaborators to keep the course. It will be a demanding task but not impossible.
I am deeply grateful to my predecessor, Fr. Orobator, SJ who kept the project on track even with several other responsibilities on his shoulders. Now that his burden is eased, he will definitely put his heart and horse-energy in advancing the process of realizing this important apostolate of the Society in Africa.
Does the province of Eastern Africa have adequate personnel to run a university? I reply like Mwalimu Julius Nyerere: “Sababu tunayo, uwezo tunao na nia tunayo” (we have the purpose, we have the capacity and we have the will). With great will and a sense of purpose in the province and the eagerness of collaborators to be part of the mission, it is possible.
Concerning the plans for launching the university, whereas so much work has been done, important conditions have to be fulfilled in order to provide a definitive time line. More regular updates will actually indicate when the time finally arrives. To all the companions outside the province, our friends and collaborators, we are grateful that you have thus far stood by our side.
